
A tragic accident occurred at kilometer 76 of Federal Highway 85, Victoria-Monterrey, near the La Rosalva community in the municipality of Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, leaving one person dead and another injured. The incident, which occurred Monday morning near the El Chorrito tourist site, caused the temporary closure of north-south traffic.
According to official information provided by the Tamaulipas Public Security Secretariat, the State Highway Support Guard was alerted by C4 and immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident to provide perimeter security while maneuvers were carried out to assist the victims and remove the vehicles.
Two heavy vehicles were found at the scene of the accident: a short refrigerated box truck and a tractor-trailer truck, the latter overturned on its right side. The impact was so severe that Civil Protection of the municipality of Hidalgo, already on the scene, confirmed the death of one person at the scene.
The injured person was taken alive to the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS)-Bienestar hospital in the municipality, where he received emergency medical care. The updated medical status of the injured person and the identities of the people involved have not yet been released.
Officers from the Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office, along with personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) and the General Investigation Unit, also responded to the accident scene. They removed the deceased’s body for the corresponding legal proceedings.
After taking charge of the scene, members of the National Guard’s Highway Division took over road coordination and the relevant investigations. Following this, the State Guard’s Highway Support personnel resumed their normal duties in the area.
The tragic event generated an intense mobilization of emergency services and has kept state authorities on alert, reiterating the call for caution in driving, especially on high-speed, heavy-traffic highways such as the Victoria-Monterrey highway.
This accident highlights the need for increased safety measures on one of the state’s busiest routes, used by both truckers and travelers heading to the northern border or the central region of the country.
