Prosecutors raided the home of Sadi Antonio Vargas, husband of Lucineia Gomes Ribeiro, the Brazilian citizen brutally murdered in Mbaracayú, Alto Paraná, Paraguay, after learning the results of the autopsy performed on the victim’s body. The woman was tortured and left with her face smashed.
During the raid, they seized a vehicle that Lucineia’s son had allegedly used to transport her to Puerto Indio on May 30, along with a .22-caliber shotgun, ammunition, cell phones, a closed-circuit video recorder, a sheet with suspected blood stains, and fired .38-caliber cartridges.
All the items were sent for analysis, according to the Alto Paraná Investigations Department.
The investigation seeks to clarify the circumstances of Lucineia’s murder. Lucineia traveled back and forth between Paraguay and Santa Helena, Brazil, where her mother, currently convalescing from a stroke, lived. The victim owns two homes there.
However, this time, everything indicates that he did not manage to cross the lake to the Brazilian side, since his house in Santa Helena remained closed and intact.
Prosecutor Fidel Godoy, in charge of the case, confirmed that the crime is even more heinous than suspected.
According to the report from the Public Ministry’s Forensic Laboratory, Lucineia was held for approximately five days, during which time she was allegedly subjected to physical torture, including severe beatings, a nearly complete fracture of her jaw, and other signs of aggression.
The fatal shot was fired from behind, from a distance of one meter, possibly while Lucineia was kneeling and weakened. After killing her, the perpetrators attempted to accelerate the decomposition of the body by pouring a chemical on it before partially burying it.
The victim’s remains were handed over to his family, who came from Santa Helena, Quedas do Iguaçu, and Cascavel, and attended the funeral services.
