Seven people died and 16 were injured after the truck they were traveling in fell into the Tlapaneco River near the municipality of Ixcateopan de Cuauhtémoc, on the Tlapa-Puebla highway in Guerrero.

According to preliminary reports from municipal Civil Protection, at least seven people died and 16 more were injured, including an eight-month-old baby. The accident occurred early Friday morning, July 4, in the northern region of Guerrero.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m., and mobilized Guerrero Civil Protection personnel, the National Guard, and the Mexican Army, who responded to the scene to rescue the victims and provide medical attention, according to El Sol de Acapulco.

Of the 16 injured, five adults and the baby suffered minor injuries and were taken to the IMSS-Bienestar General Hospital in Tlapa for treatment.

Although the cause of the accident has not yet been officially confirmed, previous reports have cited similar incidents in the area due to poor road conditions, excessive speed, or mechanical failures in public transportation vehicles.

Residents of the municipality of Tlapa reported that the Gold Line bus was overcrowded, so the death toll could rise, as several people are still being reported missing.

Authorities remain on scene, carrying out vehicle rescue operations and searching for additional passengers. The transportation company and state authorities are expected to issue an official report on the incident and release the complete list of affected passengers in the coming hours.
