Highway accident in Coahuila leaves two musicians dead and two more injured
An accident on the Torreón-Matamoros highway, near the municipality of Matamoros, Coahuila, resulted in the deaths of two people and left two others injured. The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on February 5.
According to initial reports, the accident involved two vehicles: a white van belonging to the musical group “Retro Music” and a maroon pickup truck. The van was traveling eastbound at excessive speed when, upon merging onto Cuauhtémoc Avenue, it collided with the left rear of the truck.
Upon impact, the van lost control, struck a concrete pole belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission, and overturned on its right side. As a result, two members of the band died at the scene.
Firefighters, Civil Protection, and Red Cross paramedics responded to the scene and transported the injured to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck was arrested by authorities and handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine his possible responsibility in the incident.
The bodies of the victims were finally taken to the Forensic Medical Service for a legal autopsy. Due to the accident, traffic on Cuauhtémoc Avenue was closed for more than an hour.
