Evellin Sophia Lima dos Santos

A seven-year-old girl died after being trapped in a fire that consumed part of a home in the city of Breves, located in the Marajó region of the state of Pará, Brazil.

The tragic incident occurred last Saturday, July 5, and shocked the local community.

The minor was identified as Evellin Sophia Lima dos Santos. According to witness accounts, the girl was alone in a windowless room, which prevented her from being rescued in time.

The fire occurred in a residential building that was quickly consumed by flames. Videos recorded at the time of the fire show the home engulfed in dense smoke and intense flames.

A neighbor tried to rescue the girl, but the lack of exits from the room she was in made rescue impossible. “She screamed desperately, ‘Get me out of here, I’m on fire!'” said a person present at the scene.

Although the source of the fire has not yet been officially determined, witnesses reported that the blaze escalated after a gas cylinder exploded. “ The fire wasn’t that bad at first. It got worse when the cylinder exploded. That’s when the mother threw herself to the ground screaming for her daughter,” another resident commented.

The case is being investigated by the Specialized Police Station for Child and Adolescent Care (DEACA) in Breves. The Pará State Civil Police confirmed the death of the minor and indicated that the investigation is under a confidentiality order.

For its part, the Fire Department, which responded to the scene to contain the blaze, announced that the technical report with preliminary conclusions on the origin of the fire will be ready within an estimated 30 days.
