A tragic incident shook Cancún this morning when a municipal police officer was shot and killed while taking his son to school. The attack, allegedly carried out by a woman, left the child injured and in a state of shock, pleading with his father: “Dad, wake up, please don’t fall asleep.”
The Benito Juárez Municipal Department of Citizen Security and Traffic confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement. The victim, an officer assigned to the corporation who was working as a hairdresser and off duty at the time of the incident, was attacked in Supermanzana 107, Paraíso Maya neighborhood.
Witnesses at the scene reported that a woman, accompanied by a man, fired at the officer at point-blank range. The officer’s son was wounded by a bullet graze and was immediately taken to the general hospital.
After the brutal attack, the woman’s companion grabbed the weapon and fled the scene. However, the alleged attacker was detained by bystanders. While she was restrained, the woman made accusations against the officer.
Municipal police officers arrived at the scene and arrested the alleged perpetrator, who was handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation. The Benito Juárez Municipal Department of Citizen Security and Traffic has expressed its full willingness to assist authorities in solving this crime.
