It started like any normal Tuesday. My 8-year-old son Ben and I were walking home when we passed a police officer. Ben tugged my sleeve and asked, “Can I say something to him?” I nodded, expecting a question—but instead, Ben asked the officer, “Can I pray for you?”

The surprised officer knelt, and Ben placed a hand on his shoulder: “I pray you stay safe, don’t have to hurt anyone, and remember you’re a good person.” My heart swelled. Later, Ben told me, “I thought maybe he needed someone to care.”
A few days later, the officer found us at the store to thank Ben. He’d just come from a tough call, and Ben’s words had meant more than he could say.
At the neighborhood block party, the officer appeared in plain clothes, carrying a dish and smiling. Ben’s simple gesture had done more than offer comfort—it built a bridge of kindness and connection.
