Neyra Jarely

After nearly a year of agonizing searching, 27-year-old Neyra Jarely was found dead in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. The tragic news was confirmed by the collective Amor por los Desaparecidos en Tamaulipas, which has tirelessly supported the family throughout this painful process.

The discovery of Neyra’s body, missing since July 22, 2024, occurred alongside that of 20-year-old Carla Samira, who had been reported missing since August 16, 2024. This double discovery deepens the pain and indignation of the families and of Tamaulipas society, which is crying out for security and justice.

The search team posted a heartfelt message on social media, highlighting the unwavering determination of Neyra’s mother:

Your mom was always #standinguntilshefoundyou, she never stopped looking for you, she never gave up in the face of negligence and omissions from the authorities, she fought and struggled to find you, and she succeeded.”

These words resonate as a tribute to Elia, Neyra’s mother, who became a symbol of the struggle of searching mothers in Mexico.

From the moment her daughter disappeared, Elia didn’t rest. Her tireless search led her to block roads in protest, demand answers from the authorities, and request support from President Claudia Sheinbaum. Her determination is a reflection of the courage of thousands of families who, faced with government inaction, are forced to search for their loved ones on their own.

Now, with the pain of the discovery, the Amor collective emphasizes that the fight for Neyra and Carla isn’t over. On the contrary, a new stage begins: one of demanding justice and for those responsible to be brought to justice. “When we find one of our treasures, there’s a chair that’s no longer ’empty,’ it’s full of memories and love,” they added, expressing the bittersweet reality of finding a loved one in these circumstances.

The Amor collective has extended its gratitude to Neyra’s family for their fortitude and for not giving up their search until they find her. This case once again highlights the serious crisis of disappearances facing Tamaulipas and the country, and the urgent need for decisive action by authorities to guarantee the safety of its citizens and access to justice for the victims and their families.
