The Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office (FGJO) has opened an investigation into the wrongful abduction of a minor, following the persistent disappearance of Iker Marcelino “N,” a baby boy aged just one year and six months.
Despite two weeks of efforts, the State Search Commission’s brigades have been unable to locate the infant in the Mixe region.
The family last saw Iker Marcelino on June 5th, on the border between the municipalities of Santa María Alotepec and San Juan Cotzocón. Since then, authorities have stepped up their search efforts in the area, even enlisting the help of a specialized tracking dog team.
According to preliminary information, the child’s mother lost contact with him after leaving him in the care of a 14-year-old girl with a disability. Hours later, the teenager was found with signs of having been beaten and reported that two men had taken the baby. The State Search Commission has detailed that, in these two weeks of intense work, they have covered a perimeter of 300 kilometers, tracking the child in at least 170 municipalities.
Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla, head of the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office, has announced that the Iker Marcelino case has escalated to the next level of protocol. The investigation into those responsible for several major crimes, including illegal child abduction, has formally begun.
The official clarified that, so far, there is no evidence to link this incident to a kidnapping, as those who took the child have not demanded any ransom. The priority remains the prompt location of the indigenous baby and the clarification of the facts.
