Tragedy in Veracruz: Young man dies after attack; his partner is at large

Last Saturday, August 10, in the El Centenario neighborhood of Altotonga, Veracruz, a tragic event occurred that has shocked the community.  Daniela Bartolo Ramírez , a young woman of approximately 20 years old, lost her life after being seriously injured in an incident involving her partner,

Timoteo LB , the father of her child. This tragic event took place in a quiet town near Xalapa, surrounded by the municipalities of Atzalan, Perote, and Jalacingo.

According to reports,  22-year-old Timoteo LB shot  Daniela  and her son, a one-year-and-five-month-old boy. The attack left both seriously injured, and the assailant fled the scene, abandoning them. Daniela reportedly received six bullet wounds, aimed at both her body and face, while the boy suffered a wound in one of his legs.

The calm of the El Centenario neighborhood was abruptly interrupted when neighbors heard gunshots. Concerned, they immediately called local authorities, who quickly arrived to cordon off the area and request emergency services. Paramedics transported Daniela and her son to a hospital in Xalapa, where both received emergency care.

Despite medical efforts,  Daniela Bartolo Ramírez  died in the hospital last Tuesday night, leaving her family and the entire community in deep sorrow. Fortunately, the child was declared out of danger, although he remains a painful reminder of the traumatic events she endured.

The news of Daniela’s death has generated a wave of consternation and solidarity in the Altotonga community. Citizens, distraught by the incident, have expressed their condolences to the family through social media, particularly on Facebook. In their posts, they have not only shared their grief but also shared images of  Timoteo LB  in the hope that authorities will locate him and bring him to justice.

The  State Attorney General’s Office  has launched an exhaustive investigation to determine the whereabouts of  Timoteo LB , who remains a fugitive. According to speculation, he may have sought refuge in other states such as Puebla, Mexico City, or the State of Mexico. The search continues, while the community awaits justice for Daniela’s tragic loss.

This unfortunate event highlights the urgent need to address gender-based violence and protect victims, as well as the importance of swift action by the authorities to prevent similar incidents from recurring. The Altotonga community is united in its grief, hoping that justice will prevail and that  Daniela Bartolo Ramírez ‘s memory  will inspire change in the fight against domestic violence in the country.
