Two minors were killed after a truck loaded with sugarcane crashed into a computer shop in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Thursday afternoon, May 15.
The victims, aged 14 and 15, were inside the computer shop when the truck struck the building. Both were pinned down and died at the scene.
Initial investigation by the Murcia Municipal Police Station revealed that the truck’s brakes reportedly failed while it was descending a sloped road near Purok 9.
The vehicle, unable to stop, veered directly into the computer shop where the victims were located. Authorities identified the truck driver as Jerry, a 50-year-old resident of Bago City.
Police have placed the driver under custody as part of the ongoing investigation. It is still unclear whether charges will be filed pending the final results of the inquiry.
Authorities have yet to determine if the truck underwent routine mechanical inspection prior to the accident.
As of Friday morning, local officials have not released a statement, and the families of the victims have requested privacy during their time of mourning.
