Yeison Bladimir Pereira Castellón

Yesterday, news broke that deeply moved the La Unión community: Yeison Bladimir Pereira Castellón, the boy who was run over on June 4, died after a 20-day struggle at the Benjamín Bloom Hospital.

Yeison was barely ten years old. That afternoon, he was returning from school at the República de Honduras school, where he was proudly part of the peace band. He was getting off a bus in the La Paz neighborhood when another vehicle hit him, leaving him seriously injured.

While some were filming the scene, one of his colleagues bravely helped him and took him to a health center. From there, he was transported by helicopter to San Salvador, El Salvador.

At the hospital, Yeison underwent multiple surgeries, including the amputation of one of his legs. Doctors did everything they could to save his life, but his small body couldn’t take it anymore.

He was a child beloved by everyone. Intelligent, diligent, always at the forefront of his classes. His classmates missed him every day since that tragic moment.

On June 10, parents organized a dinner sale to support his family, and at his school, his classmates filled his desk with notes bearing messages of hope. They dreamed of seeing him return, of hearing his laughter again, and of playing games together at recess.

Those same children cried when they learned of his passing. The small ray of faith went out, and with it, Yeison’s light.

Yeison left with unfulfilled dreams, pending games, hugs that never came.
